“Everyone should learn to do one thing supremely well because he likes it,

and one thing supremely well because he detests it.” ~Brigham Young

This was my journal prompt for the day. I had no problem thinking of things that I do well. I have several talents and I do believe that I crochet supremely well. I’ve made some amazing pieces and have always received compliments on them. I am definitely “good” at a lot of things, but supremely well has a smaller amount of things in it.

When I began thinking of what I was supremely well at that I detest….that was hard to come up with.

You see, I have taken a test that has given me insight into who I truly am. This test has given me permission to do all the things I love in such an authentic way that nothing seems deplorable to do. It’s almost like a lab test that shows me the results of my highest energy and my lowest energy. It’s the CliftonStrengths® Assessment from Gallup®.

When I tried to think of tasks or “have to do” things that I don’t like doing, I realized I didn’t have any. Sure, there are things I don’t like to do but if they need done, they need done. I don’t detest things. That goes against my energy. My strengths test results show me that I don’t detest things. I have a strong belief system, core values, and contagious enthusiasm. Those things make it difficult for me to detest anything.

Don’t get me wrong, there are things that I don’t want to do or don’t like to do. I’m not the best at keeping my desk cleaned off. I will put of any accounting chores until the last hour. I am not a fan of cleaning up after my chickens. But I do all of these things because they have to do with something that brings me joy. Having a clean desk gives me space to work, and I LOVE my job. Doing my accounting shows me a how I’m financially gaining. And my chickens provide me with food and they are really good listeners when I need someone to talk to. (Yes, I talk to my chickens.)

So today’s quote didn’t sit right, but it did give me more confirmation that knowing who I am, what makes me tick, and how I can live in my zone of genius is all I really need.

The best part…I can help YOU see these things as well. If you want to learn more about what makes you tick, fill out my discovery questionnaire. Let’s take a look at your results and find your “supremely well” talents.
